Three peaks. 12 hours. One great cause.
Staff from Environmental Essentials recently completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in aid of their Good Causes Partnership with the Mavis Nye Foundation.
A team of 8 from across the business, led by Operation Director Dave Poulter, took on the challenge, starting early in extreme conditions and crossing the finish line 11 hours and 50 minutes later.
The team were supported by Executive Director James Riley at the two checkpoints along the route, and all of the team who completed the challenge were given two days paid to do so, and stayed in a spa hotel for two nights to aid recovery after the event.
One of the team, Patrick O’Neill, a team member from the Scotland region commented, “I love that we all stuck together and completed it as a team. Mesothelioma is directly related to our industry so it is very important to show our support”.
Dave Poulter congratulated the team following the completion of the event, saying “The conditions that we faced at the start of the walk made it all the more impressive that we all finished together. I hope that the money and awareness we have raised will go some way to helping such a great cause as the Mavis Nye Foundation. I am looking forward to completing the National Three Peaks challenge next year for the same cause”.
Mavis Nye was diagnosed with mesothelioma (a disease contracted by inhaling asbestos fibres) in 2009, and given 3 months to live. After years of Chemotherapy, hard work and dedication in helping others she is now the founder and president of her own charity.
The aim of the foundation is to offer support to mesothelioma victims and fund research in drug development. One of the main objectives of the charity is to support the funding for Student Nurses and Doctors to specialise in the Field of mesothelioma.
Mavis is a good friend of the company and is delighted about our efforts to support her foundation. As part of our efforts we will be running a series of fundraising events across the duration of the partnership
