Training Courses

We offer UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) and IATP certified courses in the key areas of asbestos awareness and non-licensed work, as well as duty to manage training. All employees who may disturb asbestos during their normal work should be trained to recognise asbestos containing materials and know what to do if they come across them.

  • UKATA Duty to Manage Appointed Person

    Course duration: 3 days

    Learn how to undertake management of asbestos containing materials in the buildings you are responsible for.

    Who is it for?

    Those responsible for managing asbestos containing materials in buildings.

    What are the objectives?

    Become familiar with the types and uses of asbestos in buildings, and your legal responsibilities in managing it. This course covers topics from the appointment of an appropriate surveyor to understanding asbestos survey reports and risk assessment processes. Learn how to develop an asbestos management plan and decide when a licensed asbestos contractor is needed. You will also understand the requirements to carry out asbestos removal in a proper, legal and safe manner.

  • UKATA Asbestos Awareness – E-learning or Virtual

    Course duration: 0.5 day

    Learn how to work safely on sites where asbestos may be present and avoid the risks of exposure.

    Who is it for?

    Those working on the fabric of any premises built or refurbished before 2000 and those who influence such works. For example: maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, decorators, joiners, plasterers, demolition and construction workers.

    What are the objectives?

    The course provides information on the properties of asbestos and associated health risks. It teaches you to identify products and materials that typically contain asbestos, the emergency procedures to be followed and how to avoid the risks from asbestos containing materials.

  • UKATA Non Licensed Work

    Course duration: 1 day

    Gain the skills to undertake non-licensed works with asbestos containing materials.

    Who is it for?

    Those who knowingly disturb asbestos containing materials during low risk activities, such as maintenance workers and roofing contractors.

    What are the objectives?

    This course familiarises you with the classification of non-licensed works and how to undertake specific tasks in compliance with the relevant legislation. It also covers methods to control exposure and prevent the spread of asbestos, how to deal with waste, and how to adequately decontaminate.

  • UKATA Duty to Manage – Virtual

    Course duration: 1 day

    Gain an overview of managing asbestos containing materials in buildings.

    Who is it for?

    Those with maintenance or repair responsibilities for premises at work.

    What are the objectives?

    Gain a basic understanding of the legislative requirements of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. In particular, you look at the role of Duty Holder and who that could be, surveys available, what to expect in a survey, and the asbestos management plan, its use and requirement.

  • Project Management

    Course duration: 1 day

    Aimed at those who may assist in these roles or is responsible for procuring asbestos works.

    Who is it for?

    The course is aimed at Site Managers, Project Managers and Contract Managers and any other person who may assist in these roles or is responsible for procuring asbestos works.

    What are the objectives?

    On successful completion of this course, delegates should be able to:

    Be familiar with types, uses and likely occurrences of asbestos in buildings and, where appropriate, items of plant;
    Be familiar with the requirements as set out in CAR 2012 and HSG 264, HSG 247, HSG 248 with regard to responsibilities also providing an understanding of the different work categories and requirements;
    An overview of the requirements for asbestos surveys including interpreting results and understanding the risk assessment process;
    An overview of the asbestos removal process including remedial work options and best practice;
    An understanding of monitoring Asbestos Removal Contractors, expectations and limitations;
    The role of the Asbestos Analysts involvement and different types of air monitoring.

  • RPE – Competent Person

    Course duration: 0.5 day

    Understand the importance of RPE, including inspection and record-keeping procedures.

    Who is it for?

    Employers, supervisors, health & safety representatives and elected company representatives responsible for the selection, use, maintenance and record-keeping for employees’ RPE.

    What are the objectives?

    This course will equip you with the skills to perform monthly checks on respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and record outcomes appropriately following HSE guidance HSG53 – Respiratory Protective Equipment at Work. It also covers RPE cleaning, maintenance, storage and disposal.
